Rotator Cuff Injuries Treatment in Walsall

Expert Rotator Cuff Injuries Treatment at Crestacre Chiropractic

Rotator cuff problems are a very common cause of shoulder pain and can affect people of all ages, particularly those who are active or perform repetitive movements.

The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles and their tendons that work together to stabilise and move the shoulder joint. These structures help control both the ball and socket joint and the shoulder blade, which need to work together for smooth, pain-free movement.
The shoulder is designed for a large range of motion, allowing you to lift, reach, and rotate your arm in many directions. However, there is a trade-off. The shoulder has to balance mobility with stability, and when this balance begins to shift, problems can develop. This can lead to irritation or overload of the rotator cuff tendons, often referred to as rotator cuff related pain.

Symptoms can vary but commonly include pain when lifting the arm, reaching overhead, or lying on the affected side. Some people notice weakness, reduced range of movement, a catching sensation in the shoulder, or pain that may radiate into the upper arm. In some cases, the pain can build gradually over time, while in others it may appear after a specific activity or injury.

Rotator cuff problems are particularly common in people involved in overhead activities, such as cricket players, or in professions like plastering and decorating where the arms are held overhead for prolonged periods. Repeated overhead work, heavy lifting, and poor shoulder mechanics can all contribute to irritation of the tendons over time.

How We Treat Rotator Cuff Problems

Treatment focuses on restoring the balance between movement and stability within the shoulder.

At Crestacre, we look to identify the area contributing most to the problem so we can create a targeted plan for recovery. This allows us to address the root of the problem rather than just the symptoms. We also look at whether the issue is being driven by stiffness, overload, weakness, poor movement patterns, or a combination of these factors.

We use a combination of hands-on treatment and rehabilitation. This may include mobilisation techniques to improve joint movement, alongside specific exercises to strengthen the rotator cuff and the muscles around the shoulder blade. These exercises help improve control, reduce strain on the tendon, and support longer-term recovery.
We also look closely at contributing factors in daily life and work habits. Identifying triggers such as repetitive overhead activity, poor posture, or load-related strain is key to long-term improvement. In many cases, simple changes to how you move, lift, or work can make a meaningful difference.

Where appropriate, we may use additional therapies such as LASER to help reduce inflammation and support tissue healing. In some cases, shockwave therapy can also be used, particularly where there are calcified deposits within the tendon that may benefit from being broken down.
Our goal is not just to reduce pain, but to improve how your shoulder functions, helping you return to normal activity and reduce the risk of the problem recurring.

If your shoulder pain is severe, came on after an injury, wakes you at night, or is associated with marked weakness or numbness, it should be assessed promptly.
