Dry Needling at Crestacre Chiropractic
A precise way to release stubborn muscular pain that has not responded to other approaches. By targeting tight, irritable knots within a muscle, it can ease tension, restore movement and break the cycle of pain that keeps an injury lingering. It is often used as part of a broader treatment plan, working hand in hand with hands-on therapy and rehabilitation rather than in isolation.
Dry needling is often confused with acupuncture. Both use a similar fine needle, but dry needling targets specific muscular trigger points identified during your assessment, rather than traditional acupuncture points.
Patients travel to us from Walsall, Aldridge, Brownhills, Lichfield, Cannock, Walsall Wood and Pelsall, and there is free parking directly outside the clinic.
What is dry needling?
Dry needling is a treatment in which a fine, sterile needle is inserted into a trigger point, a tight band of muscle that can cause local pain and discomfort elsewhere in the body. The term dry refers to the fact that nothing is injected. The effect comes from the needle itself, which prompts the muscle to release, improves local blood flow and helps reduce the pain signals coming from the area. Many patients notice an easing of tightness and a greater range of movement after treatment.
How we use dry needling at Crestacre
We never apply a single technique in isolation. Before any dry needling takes place, your practitioner carries out a full assessment to confirm that trigger points are contributing to your problem and that the treatment is appropriate for you. We then explain exactly what to expect, because understanding the process makes it far more comfortable. Dry needling is frequently combined with soft tissue work and a tailored exercise programme so that the muscle stays released once the tension has been treated.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does dry needling hurt?
Most people feel only a small sensation as the needle is inserted, and sometimes a brief muscle twitch as the trigger point releases. Your practitioner will check your comfort throughout.
Is dry needling the same as acupuncture?
The needles are similar, but the reasoning differs. Dry needling targets specific muscular trigger points identified during your assessment, rather than following traditional acupuncture points.
How will I feel afterwards?
Some people feel an immediate easing of tightness, while others notice mild soreness for a day or so, much like after exercise. Your practitioner will explain what to expect for your situation.
